Morgan Philpot is currently preparing a case against Governor Herbert of Utah for overreach of delegated powers.
Morgan Philpot was a 2016 Republican candidate for District 14 of the Utah State Senate.
Philpot was a Republican candidate for governor of Utah in the 2012 elections.
Philpot lists the following four central principles on his campaign website:
• God is the author of Natural Law. It is only by following natural law that individuals, families and societies can obtain liberty and happiness.
• Family is the fundamental unit of society. This is not just a trite phrase, it is at the core of a life and a society of liberty and happiness. It is critical and of paramount importance. I will speak often and refer back to this principle throughout my campaign and service.
• Freedom to… The third and fourth principles are actually a set of principles that I will simply refer to here as the “freedom to/from principles,” such as the freedom to practice religion, the freedom to worship God and to proclaim your religion, the freedom of conscience, speech, and the right to bear arms. This could also include the freedom to run a business or the right to educate your children.
• Freedom from… The “freedom from principles” contemplate our right to exist in Peace, Prosperity and Harmony unmolested by wrongful government interference or excessive bureaucracy, or to be free from the oppressive economic effects of crony capitalism and cartel privatization. Perhaps most important is the right of the family to be free in the home from wrongful government interference.
Philpot became the lawyer for Ammon Bundy on May 25, 2016. On October 27, 2016 an Oregon jury returned a startling verdict finding Ammon Bundy not guilty on all charges. Philpot subsequently served as co-counsel for Ammon Bundy in the Nevada Gold Butte Standoff trial where Judge Gloria Navarro dismissed the case against Cliven, Ammon and Ryan Bundy and Ryan Payne with prejudice in early 2018 due to, among other things, outrageous government conduct.
Philpot also represents Jeanette Finicum in her wrongful death suit against the United States government for the killing of her husband Robert Lavoy Finicum during a combined FBI and Oregon State Police roadblock related to the 2016 occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.
